New Agriculture & Fish Processing Work Permit Stream Coming Soon

According to IRCC’s 2025–26 Departmental Plan, a dedicated foreign worker stream is being developed for agriculture and fish processing jobs. This will include a sector-specific work permit and likely involve partner country agreements to facilitate hiring.
This new initiative is part of IRCC’s strategy to support Canada’s essential sectors by targeting sectors with acute labor shortages, following the closure of the Agri‑Food Pilot earlier this year.
✅ What to Expect
Sector-specific work permits—no LMIA or Express Entry needed.
Streamlined hiring from partner countries, easing employer access to labor.
Potential PR pathways—this shift may evolve into a permanent solution for rural labor needs.
