Major Shake‑Up to Post‑Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) Eligibility — June 2025

In June 2025, IRCC revamped the PGWP-eligible fields to better align education with labor market demands. A total of 119 new fields—focused on healthcare, education, social services, and skilled trades—have been added, while 178 previously eligible programs were removed.
Students must now choose programs linked to in-demand occupations to qualify. The new policy also maintains grandfathering: students who applied before June 25, 2025, keep their PGWP eligibility, even if their field is later delisted.
✅ What This Means for You
Choose programs strategically: Ensure your major aligns with job shortages to secure a PGWP.
Grandfathered students are safe: You retain eligibility even if your field is cut after you apply.
Reducing mismatches: The overhaul helps prevent over-saturation in fields with low employment demand.
